Would-Be Trump Assassin Said Previous Trump Assassination Attempts Were Fake
Cole Tomas Allen and the pathology of Trump derangement
The man charged with attempting to kill President Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday night had amplified conspiracy theories about previous attempts on Trump’s life.
In social media posts that were archived before deletion, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, found it suspicious that Trump’s earlobe healed after being nicked by Thomas Matthew Crooks (source). He also referred to Ryan Routh’s attempt on Trump at Mar-a-Lago as a “fake assassination gimmick”. “Sorry I don’t believe him”, Allen wrote. Each attempt meant nothing to Allen, because he was “numb to them like school shootings”.
Allen managed to hold these thoughts in his head while simultaneously fantasizing about his own attempt on the president’s life. He never reconsidered his stated disbelief at any point in his planning, preparations, travel, and Reddit manifesto-writing.
Plenty of commentary has now acknowledged that Cole Tomas Allen believes in falsehoods about Trump that have become mainstream Democratic talking points. He is not mentally ill, he is a bog-standard leftist revolutionary that has been normalized in the Democratic Party.
The Bluesky crowd called his attack ‘staged’ even while expressing disappointment that Allen had missed the target. Democrats don’t just have a ‘violence problem’, they have internalized a disturbing culture of violent psychopathology.
