How did Democrats become so disconnected from the concerns of everyday, normal Americans? What will it take to make them a “party of the people” again? Will they ever stop pushing unpopular ideas like transgenderism, open borders, climate crisis, and DEI that annoy voters?
Political scientist Ruy Teixeira has co-authored two books on the changing Democratic Party in the 21st century. He witnessed the wokening of progressive political spaces. He tried to help Democrats see reason, but they did not want to listen.
In this interview, Teixeira explains how political geography and a “shadow party” of ideological extremists have transformed the Democrats within, so that the party no longer connects with Americans outside of its own culture.
