So What's The Harm In A 'Nonbinary Phase'?
A reuploaded 'Deadnames' conversation with Exulansic
I am integrating The Distance into this website. Podcasts will be posted behind paywalls on both sites and released on YouTube after three weeks. Essays and book reviews on transgender politics will appear on both sites. This arrangement holds until the end of 2026.
Exulansic was medicalized into the ‘transmasculine’ identity category in her early 20s as a student at Berkeley. She now lives with the iatrogenic harms of the ‘nonbinary’ experiment carried out on her body. As we discuss in the show, it is not a special category safe from harm. If anything, the category is an ethical Wild West where clinicians are making it up as they go.
Recently, Exulansic embarked on a deep dive into the social media traces left by people who died after receiving ‘gender affirming care’, or took their own lives within two years of medicalization. This is a sobering discussion about the perils of the cutting edge in ‘gender affirmation’. It is now reuploaded to YouTube. Please like, share, and subscribe to the channel.
