If everything has gone according to plan today, then I am already on a plane right now, with my cat chilling out in a carrier under the seat in front of me, as we relocate our lives to a whole new state. This change has been long in the planning. It was set in motion by an unexpected conversation last year. I am leaving my comfortable home in Alabama to seek a new comfortable home in California, of all places.
I know, I know. Why California? Everything is too expensive and also on fire, I know. I already abided too long in Monterey during the 1990s, when I had an extended stay at the Defense Language Institute. I am familiar with the problems of the Golden State. I would not be going unless it was important to me.
California is the heart of the Woke beast, sure, but where better to stab the beast than in its foul and ichor-filled heart? So I am filled with great hopes and expectations. California will be the happy home on the front lines of my favorite battles. And you all know how much I love battles.
Why am I just now hearing about this?
