Reacting to the recent “leak” of a Glenn Greenwald sex video yesterday, I summarized my opinion in the closing that “his long career of hating America fittingly resolves as self-hatred, enacted on the internet.” Some Greenwald fans reacted poorly. The flak was a strong indicator that I was over the target.

Reader, set aside whatever you think about Glenn Greenwald the reporter, or his politics, because what I expressed yesterday was not a political opinion, nor did I detail my issues with his reporting. Indeed, I specifically said that the “leak” of Greenwald’s sex video was neither political nor personal, but deliberate. He who smelt it, dealt it, and then the fashionistas of opinion fell all over themselves to sniff Greenwald’s fart.

Receipts are available. Greenwald did in fact retweet the video right after it was posted to X, as I noted yesterday. People took screenshots when he did it.

No one made Greenwald amplify his own humiliation — humiliation which, again, is something he clearly enjoys, based on the contents of the video, which also contains evidence of drug use. As I noted yesterday, this behavior is consistent with the acting-out of a senior gay man: Greenwald is both 58 and a widower, chasing a chemical sex high.

The only way to get a bigger high was to share it with the world. For 24 hours, Greenwald successfully controlled the narrative surrounding the video in the broader media, manipulating millions of supporters, as well as various outlets and journalists, to amplify his baseless charge that the video’s release was an attack by shadowy, malign actors.

This gaslighting was sadism, and it is commensurate with his evident masochism, because the paraphilias run together (“sadomasochism”). Put simply, getting everyone to go along with his hoax has given Greenwald a massive sexual thrill. When Cenk Uygur rages on video for eighteen minutes defending Greenwald’s honor, he merely produces eighteen minutes of fresh wank material for Glenn.

Let us not quibble over civil rights issues here. Enacted in privacy, with consent, no one cares what Greenwald does on his own time. If Greenwald published the video to his OnlyFans under his own name, it would not raise a single eyebrow, either. Instead, Greenwald participated in the video, participated in spreading the video, and then tried to blame the release and spread of the video on his nameless political enemies. That is not a free speech situation, it is abusive gaslighting by a paraphilic male.

One may read that as irony if they wish. Nor am I suggesting that Greenwald should be despised for enjoying sex, even sadomasochistic sex involving young men. For these screenshots were taken from a gay escort forum and describe live acts with live people. Greenwald’s new video is entirely consistent with his self-described sexual behavior from 22 years ago.

So it matters not a bit whether Glenn Greenwald is right or wrong in his attacks on the NSA, or the Bush administration, or Obama, or Trump, or American policy, or Israel, because this is not about any of those things. His opinions cannot serve as a defense of his actions. And if the derp state really did want to make Glenn Greenwald look bad, why on earth did they fail to use this obvious leverage against him for 22 years?

Recall Sam Brinton, the nuclear waste security guy who stole ladies’ suitcases to strut around in public, wearing their clothes. Recall Rachel Levine, the autogynephilic man celebrated as the very first transgender deputy HHS secretary, who urged WPATH to get rid of any age limits whatsoever for castrating surgeries on minor children. This is an era of men displaying their paraphilias in public discourse, even injecting them into public policy, under the protective guise of marginalized political classes.

Greenwald, meanwhile, has not been a relevant figure in years. Since leaving The Intercept in 2020, he has not produced a single notable piece of original journalism. So of course he has “no regrets” about making that kink video, for it is the biggest career boost he has received in ages. He got everyone to sniff his fart and agree it was a conspiracy against him: Greenwald’s biggest thrill in ages.
