A random man snuck into a cabinet secretary’s press conference yesterday and barged to the front of the room, interrupting and demanding to ask a question. Secret Service agents restrained the random man, removing him from the room. The man did not wear a security pin, so the agents correctly assessed him as a potential threat. FBI agents handcuffed the man in the hallway outside.
Only after first physical contact with the agents did the random, possibly dangerous man breaking the rules announce that he was in fact special, a real Senator from California, none other than Alex Padilla the Grand Poobah of Press Conferences. Predictactably, both Padilla and the Democratic Party fell all over themselves in the ensuing hours with tendentious crybullying and bloody-shirt-waving. They blamed Donald Trump and the immigration Gestapo for failing to recognize Padilla’s status in society. The poor dears. They are cracking.
Democrats identify as the party of the American working class. They also identify as the party of illegal immigration and Mexican flags. These two identities are incompatible. Progressive organizers have passed out American flags and tried to moderate their ‘optics’ but no one is convinced by that sort of makeover anymore, especially not when elected Democrats start imitating the street hoods. On camera. In Congress.
Until Alex Padilla was handcuffed and positively identified, Secret Service agents had no idea who he was, nor could they simply trust his word that he was in fact the freshman Senator from California. Democrats knew better than to attack the Secret Service for doing exactly what they are trained to do, so instead they are patently silly, and blame Donald Trump. It is disingenuous politicking in the extreme.
Padilla is not special. His election to the Senate was not a license to rush the Secretary of Homeland Security at a press conference. Democrats say they are on the right side of history, but polling says they are on the wrong side of the voters, particularly on this issue.
Americans like it when ICE rounds up criminal aliens, and don’t mind a bit when other undocumented aliens get swept up at Home Depot. Deportation is popular among working citizens, including legal immigrants. Democrats are on the wrong side of Americans, so this sort of acting-out is supposed to ‘flip the script’ and ‘change the narrative.’ CBS News happened to get the best view of what happened at the beginning.
Padilla had a staffer recording the entire time, so this was premeditated. Secretary Kristi Noem told Bill Melugin of Fox News that “she had a 10-15 minute meeting with Padilla and they swapped phone numbers” afterward. How is the Republican coming across as the classy, respectable, sane person, here?
Says it was cordial and beneficial. He had concerns about ICE operations & they opened up a line of communication. Said it was a good meeting and things are okay between the two of them (outside of all the political reaction happening now).
As you can see in this clip, Padilla tried pushing back against the Secret Service detail as he announced his special identity pass to do whatever he wants. This was ill-advised. Democrats are busy hanging replicas of the proposed January 6 Memorial in their offices while also pushing back against Secret Service protection, all to defend rioters assaulting law enforcement in Los Angeles.
Suppose Padilla was speaking in the Senate, and I tried this approach on him. What would happen to me? It might look the same, except that I would not be released as quickly, nor would I have the Governor of California retweeting my nonsensical conspiracy theory that blames the president for my actions. I would not have Rachel Maddow bloviating about how horribly I was mistreated. I would not have a chorus to repeat my own lies back to me, so that I believe them myself, and expect others to believe them, too.
After Sen. Padilla’s brief detention, Rep. Jamie Raskin tweeted a video of himself sternly walking to the office of Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota to “demand that he protect his Colleagues from this out-of-control authoritarian onslaught.” Moments later, as he was leaving the building, Rep. Raskin encountered streaming reporter Nick Sorter, who asked him about Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
For those of you just joining our national metadrama, Garcia was arrested for human trafficking (of illegal immigrants, naturally) and ultimately deported. Raskin, who represents Maryland, demanded that Garcia, a resident of his state, be returned from El Salvador, where he had been deported. Democrats embarrassed themselves by demanding “rule of law” for Garcia, who was eventually returned to face the new indictment. Garcia’s wife, it turned out, had told the court that her husband was abusive. Democrats now pat themselves on the back for getting all that respect for Garcia’s rule of law.
When Sortor asked Raskin about Garcia’s domestic abuse allegations and trafficking charges, Raskin yelled about QAnon and Elon Musk. “He even tried to signal for Capitol Police to come get me,” Sortor tweeted, calling Raskin a “liar and a hypocrite too,” adding: “I hope you get some help,” tagging Raskin. Say what you like about Sortor’s approach — it is not the most professional in the world — but Raskin is supposed to be a professional. Instead, he is incoherent.
Raskin is hardly the first Democrat to yell “QANON! ELON MUSK!” when confronted by constituents about the two most toxic and unpopular ideological stances they take as a party, namely mass immigration and genderwoo. Sen. John Fetterman’s chief of staff Jason Smith recently threw a group of women out of his office because they informed him that men are being housed in female prisons in the United States, that Democrats did it, and they want Democrats to undo what they have done.
Smith and Raskin are Democrats who cannot handle the truth. Right now, truth seems to be pressing in hard on the electeds. Their progressive street army is planning a big day on Saturday and the antifa goons are talking about more violence, which is what the electeds do not want. The party has fanned the flames of a fire they do not control. They are rightfully worried about a catastrophe, unable to massage every message.
The pressure clearly got to Rep. John Mannion yesterday. “We need you,” he reportedly shouted at reporters during a press conference regarding the Padilla incident. “We need you to hold them accountable. Media, it's your country too,” Mannion reportedly raged. “Don't cover the distractions. Cover the actions that lead us towards authoritarianism, please.”
Then Mannion walked onto the House floor to yell at fellow New Yorker and Republican Mike Lawler. His words were “something to the effect of, 'You've got to do something. Stand up. Grow a pair of balls.’” Lawler was equally loud: “Fuck you, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“John Mannion was entirely unhinged and unprofessional,” Lawler tweeted afterward. “That was a shameful display that exposed his complete lack of temperament. No wonder numerous staffers have previously alleged a toxic work environment. He should go seek help for anger management — and fuck off.” The moment was caught off-camera by the C-SPAN microphone.
As if to underline her uselessness, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass did her own media stunt pretending to clean up riot graffiti in Little Tokyo. “You can hear what appears to be a pressure washer in the background, while she scrubs by hand,” Andy Ngo observes. Bass does not appear used to hard cleaning, either. This looks, sounds, and feels inauthentic — but it is the best she can do, right now.
Democrats are not just losing elections, they are lost. Leaderless, rudderless, and still married to voter-repellent causes, the Democratic Party is desperately trying to perform the part of a civil rights movement, getting high on their own propaganda supply. Resisting Donald Trump is their entire plan, so they are dying on the proverbial hills where they are least popular. I cannot say this makes me happy to watch. On the contrary, a healthy democracy requires at least two functioning political parties. Democrats only ever get elected when they seem normal by contrast to the Republican running against them. It is sad to watch the Democratic Party fall apart under stress.
Democrats Play With Fire, Get Burned
Americans favor deportation of foreigners who are in the United States without permission. Support declines if the question involves ICE raids on schools or churches, since Americans are not evil. Deporting criminal aliens is however extremely popular
