At 13, Jonni Skinner’s puberty was blocked. Then his growth plates were locked with estrogen to prevent him from growing too tall. His doctors said this would make him happier as an adult, for he would be more able to attract a husband. Rather than turn a gay boy into a girl, however, they made Jonni Skinner into a young gay man with a lifetime of regret ahead of him.
