Something has been missing from coverage of Trent Franks’ (R-AZ) failed attempt to pass a law against “sex selection” abortion. In the above clip, no one — not even Irin Carmon of Salon.com — mentions the recent release of Planned Parenthood “sting” videos by a group called Live Action in which activists tried to trick volunteers and workers into condoning a sex-selection abortion. The timing is not an accident, as fringe conservative outlets have been pushing the story all week. So has Bill O’Reilly.
Of course, Planned Parenthood detected and reported the attempted hoax in advance; it was not the first time that organization has been the target of an ACORN-style “activism” project. Legislation to defund that organization emerged in the immediate wake of those videos, which came from fringe activists and achieved mainstream prominence via FOX News. We know how this works now, and it’s time we all started reporting it that way.
