The New Libya Will Prepare for Peak Oil

Outgoing Finance and Oil Minister Ali Tarhouni on the necessity of growing the non-oil Libyan economy:

“This country has been using a nonrenewable resource, and it does not matter how much reserve we have, we will run out of that, sooner or later,” he said of the dependence on oil. “This is the time to diversify sources of income.”

That’s as good a sign as any that America needs to diversify sources of energy. The oil is not infinite, and a smart country won’t pretend otherwise.
