Morning Awful: Chasing Idiocracy

Via ThinkProgress, video of the moment that made me turn off the GOP debate video feed Wednesday night:

Education is the world’s number one economic development tool and the only remaining source of upward mobility in America. College students are delaying graduation in a down economy; Newt Gingrich says they’re being lazy. As students take on enormous debt burdens to achieve the American dream, Ron Paul thinks the problem isn’t outrageous tuition but too much debt. While students lead the Occupation movement to demand corporate America stop sitting on cash reserves and start hiring, Rick Perry wants to defund their student loans and impose austerity.

These people are idiots, and they want everyone else to be as stupid as they are.

Wow! I can not believe what I see, the lack of respect by the Senator or Congressman (Ron Paul) is so great, I’m stunned. Ron Paul is disgusting, the way he responded to the question is almost unheard of. And to think that this is what we have come, after years of struggle to end discrimination and achieve new goals and raise the standard of education and the role played by women in this country. These Republicans are disgusting, period!

Wow. You have no idea what Ron Paul’s answer meant at all. The reason why college tuition is so expensive now is because of government-backed loans. Colleges have increased tuition 3 times faster than inflation because they knew that the government would cover the loans. If the government was not involved in college loans, tuition costs would go down.

Know why I like this comment? Because it’s like a cult member defending their Dear Leader. If you did away with college loans tomorrow, tuition would NOT go down one red cent — but lots of students would have to end their educations. So it’s not that I don’t understand him; I just refuse to rationalize the dissonance like you do.

There’s no republic in their party anymore.
