Morning Awful: Disenfranchisement

Tweeting an AP article which found that South Carolina’s new voter ID bill will hit African Americans harder than whites, Republican operative and self-described Christian Wesley Donehue remarked that the article “proves EXACTLY why we need Voter ID in SC.” From the article:

Lacking state-issued IDs are 11,087 nonwhite voters in Richland County, 5,385 in Charleston County and 4,544 in Orangeburg County. That means half the voters affected by the law in Richland County aren’t white and in Orangeburg County it’s 73 percent.

And achieving that Jim Crow-like disenfranchisement is the point of this law, at least according to Donehue. Which is another way of saying these racist voter ID laws are designed to help the Republican Party, proving that everything I have ever said about modern GOP politics is true.

Times change – back in the 60′ & 70′s, blacks were referred to as Afro-Americans…in school textbooks, mainstrean magazines, newspapers, TV shows, etc.   Muslims were referred to as Moslems.  Times change.
