If Obama is reelected, you can expect to see the EPA issue new smog regulations in 2013 after all. If Rick Perry is elected, you can expect to see the EPA emasculated instead:
“I’ll tell you one thing: The EPA officials we have an opportunity to put in place, they’re going to be pro-business, and there’s not going to be any apologies to anybody about it,” he said. “Those agencies won’t know what hit ‘em.”
Oh, they’ll know. Some of the employees at those agencies will have been around long enough to remember the dark days of the Bush administration. Midnight rule changes, free-for-all permitting, illegal auctions, industry lobbyists slashing regulations with chainsaws… We can have them all back again, o joy! And then it won’t matter what regulations Obama approved, because they’ll all be gutted anyway by a man who doesn’t even believe fuels are fossils, much less that they have a role in climate change.
