A civilization is not an accident. This seminal television program aired on my local PBS station in 1980 and still holds up as one of the greatest shows ever made. In this episode, James Burke demonstrates our complete dependence on complex social and technological systems we rarely understand.

How old was Sid Meier in 1980? I get the feeling part 4 especially had an effect on the early part of Civilization.

Oh, this series had effects far outside the narrow world of BBC docs. In fact, there’s a movie from the mid-90s based on this episode.

Do you know, I remember seeing this in the video store back in the mid-1990′s. (I had to look my MLA up, but this took me five seconds to recall. My brain don’t work right)
