Have you heard about fracking yet? It’s really fracking awful. When the frackers pump their fracking fluid into their fracking wells underneath your fracking house, your fracked-up tapwater may explode from the methane they release. The fracking contamination is bad enough to destroy your property’s value:
“If you are a homeowner and a well is going to be installed within a kilometre of your house, I think that it may be a good time to think about water quality, and maybe do some basic water sampling. I would be a concerned homeowner if I lived within one kilometre of a natural gas well.”
You can read the study linking fracking to methane contamination of well-water here. Given the growth of the natural gas sector over the last decade, it’s fair to say we’ve fracked ourselves pretty thoroughly: free methane causes 21 times as much global warming as CO2. What was that about “clean burning” natural gas from shale? Because it sounds about as “clean” as coal, which never is.
