Gun Culture Sticks Up For Culture War

I found an NRA booth at a Huntsville tea party event, not fifteen feet from a display of homophobic merchandise. So it’s no surprise to read that the organization has dropped the DC law firm that won’t defend DOMA. The NRA called that decision

“indefensible” but emphasized that the NRA’s action in dropping King & Spalding is “not motivated by any position on the statute itself.” The NRA is a “single issue organization” focused on the Second Amendment, Lehman wrote. But he said that in retaining outside counsel, “we expect them to zealously advocate for our interests and not abandon the representation due to pressure from those who may disagree with us.”

Culture warriors, as birds of a feather, flock together. Make no mistake: the NRA is a culture war organization. Gun culture and culture warriors overlap to near-congruence. From Wayne LaPierre’s point of view, there’s no downside to associating the organization with homophobia this way. There may be future repercussions, but culture warriors never worry about the future.

The antis are culture warriors too.  They started the war.  Both sides are headed by Republicans.  As far as NRA dumping the law firm do you have any evidence that it has anything to do with DOMA?  Or is it just something Paul Helmke, who shares Newt’s amazing ability to make absurd crap up that people will blindly believe, made up?
