Steve Cohen On The Big Lie

Representative Steve Cohen is not wrong to compare GOP lies about a “government takeover” in the health care bill to the “big lie” of Joseph Goebbels. This blog has been an adequate chronicle of that behavior from conservative media and politicians. Worse, their “big lies” have repeatedly penetrated mainstream media long before the truth ever got its pants on. Remember how the New Black Panther-with-a-stick became a ravening mob of Obama goons? ACORN and Shirley Sherrod? Death panels? The mosque-that-wasn’t-even-a-mosque? What part of them wasn’t a lie, and wasn’t big? As I keep saying, they are the fear they want us to feel. Cohen is taking heat because of Godwin’s Law, but I don’t think it applies to this comparison. At most, he might try a different meme: it doesn’t matter if Emmanuel Goldstein isn’t real.
