Representative Peter King’s baseless claim that four out of five American mosques are “controlled by radical imams” seems to be inspiring others in the House Republican majority to start up investigations. ThinkProgress:
Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Allen West (R-FL) are also calling for hearings on the “creeping threat of Sharia law.” With the three congressmen sitting on separate committees, we could see a triumvirate of investigations in the GOP-controlled House of Representatives.
For his part, King has said he is willing to be called a “bigot” if that’s what it takes to continue his witchhunt into Muslim American communities.
Fine: King is a bigot. I’ll gladly apply the label from now on, and extend it to anyone else who propagates inflammatory Islamophobic drivel. The sad part is that Muslims are very conservative folk who would naturally gravitate to Republican ideology if they weren’t being actively chased away by the town hall zombies under the “big tent.”
