Elections have consequences, they say. The new GOP House majority started with “repeal” of Obamacare — a vote in denial of rapidly-rising health care premiums — and now moves on to denial of climate change. McClatchy:
The new chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee said he’d have hearings about the impact of the EPA’s emission reduction plan on jobs.
“Standing up for American workers and addressing EPA’s rampant regulations is a top priority, Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., said Thursday. “We will be active and aggressive using every tool in the toolbox to protect American jobs and our economy by rolling back the job-destroying (greenhouse gas) regulations.”
Never mind the American workers who would love to manufacture solar cells and wind turbines. Never mind the reality of melting ice caps, droughts, and climate wars. The Grand Old Party is all about protecting the energy sector from any form of competition or regulation — and they do it in the name of “jobs” they’re only too happy to see offshored anyway. Make no mistake, their opposition to health care reform was never about facts or freedom; it was always about power (theirs and the insurance lobby’s). This is the party that denied a link between smoking and lung cancer, remember.
