Slate visualizes the problem. Add the fact America’s population has grown by ten million this decade, and the squeeze to the gray zone makes sense:
It wouldn’t be so bad if the rich would spend their damn money, not to mention corporate titans. Together since Obama took office, they have accumulated more than $13 trillion in savings accounts waiting for someone else to stimulate the economy.
This is what Obama was talking about when he told Joe the Plumber about “spreading the wealth around.”
