Which is why the president has left Washington (and the debate there) to campaign for reform in
17 states home to moderate and conservative Democrats. Their votes are critical to Obama’s endgame for passing legislation to expand coverage to millions who now lack it and revamp the health insurance system.
Get that? Apparently, the president is helping seventeen Dems get reelected, which may explain some of his confidence in the House. He has already secured a Senate majority for fixes by reconciliation while the public option whip count has risen to 38 (or 40, according to WhipCongress.com).
He’s also throwing out new ideas (virtual “bounty hunters” to sniff out fraud) as he takes his case to the people. That bully-pulpit stuff works, especially in an election year.
Obama has to tell Americans what’s in it for them. One big problem: a lot of silly lies and half-truths are being propagated by firebagging extremists. To build excitement, he’ll need to dispel some of that.
