Alabama Priorities

Only in Alabama could the installation of a high school football JumboTron qualify as front-page news. My favorite part is how the cost gets rationalized:
Russellville has the area’s only JumboTron, installed in 2008. The screen cost $300,000 – none of the funds for its purchase came from the cash-strapped school district. The cost includes the $42,000 message board in front of the school.

Seven sponsors teamed together and agreed to pay $5,000 for the next five years in exchange for advertising shown during games, said Coach Doug Goodwin.

Alabama faces a $705 million hole in the state education budget because we refuse to tax the rich here.

This is the kind of government Republicans and Blue Dogs want to bring the rest of America.
